Spiritual Posture in Preaching

1

Why posture is more important than giftedness

Anyone can preach, theoretically. But spiritual preaching does not begin on the pulpit, but in the inner room. It is a service to the heart of the hearers. And whoever wants to touch the heart needs a soft heart themselves.

It is not enough to speak with talent. The Spirit of God works where humility, truthfulness and relationship stand at the center. Whoever preaches out of calling but lives without connection may bring words, but not life.

📖 Key verse

For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. (2 Corinthians 3:6)

2

Speaking from relationship, not from calling alone

Many confuse calling with commissioning. Just because someone feels "called" does not mean the Holy Spirit is also working at that moment. True preaching arises from the daily relationship with Jesus. Not from pressure, not from a plan, but from listening.

Whoever loves Jesus listens first, and speaks afterward.
Whoever does not talk with God should not talk about God.
A good question before every sermon is: "Lord, what do YOU want to say today?"
3

The role of humility, fear of God and honesty

Humility means: I do not place myself above others, but under God's word. I myself need grace.
Fear of God is no fear, but reverence: I do not speak lightly about holy things.
Honesty is more than authenticity. It means to also admit weakness, to correct mistakes and not to hide behind a religious mask.

💡 Tip

This posture makes room for the Spirit of God. For God does not work through great words, but through sincere hearts.

4

Practical: what does this look like?

Pray before writing: do not write the sermon, and then pray. But begin in prayer.
Listen to the heart of the community: what do people really need?
Endure silence: rather a pause than empty words.
Expect blessing: do not have your own effect in view, but allow God's work.
5

Conclusion: the preacher is no performer

In a time of stages, podcasts and show formats it is easy to "market" preaching. But power does not lie in performance, but in the presence of God. Whoever preaches does not stand for themselves, but before the Lord. And he may know:

📖 Key verse

He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

This posture opens heaven for others.
