Prayer for Humility (Phil 2:5-11)

Original Prayer

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,

who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name.

Context (Old Covenant)

Word of Paul (Phil 2:5-11), Christ-hymn of the early church. New Covenant: humility as mind of Christ in us.

What it teaches

Humility and devotion of Jesus; service.

Realization in the New Covenant

Philippians 2 shows: Jesus did not come in humility out of weakness but out of absolute security.

  • He knew who He was, and therefore He could serve.
  • Humility in the New Covenant comes from identity security, not from self-diminishment.
  • You are a new creation (2 Cor 5:17), you are accepted, and precisely because of that you can serve without losing yourself.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Jesus, thank You for Your example. Shape my heart after Yours. I receive humility that comes from security, not from insecurity. Let me serve without losing myself. Amen.
