Prayer for Fruit (Joh 15)

Original Prayer

I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.

Every branch of mine that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Context (Old Covenant)

Word of Jesus (John 15), New Covenant promise: fruit comes from abiding in him, not from effort.

What it teaches

Dependence; fruit grows from abiding.

Realization in the New Covenant

John 15: Jesus speaks BEFORE the cross about abiding in the vine. In the New Covenant:

  • "Abide in me", Since Pentecost the Spirit dwells IN you. Abiding is not effort but awareness.
  • "Apart from me you can do nothing", Not a threat, but an invitation: Live from the connection!
  • Fruit (Gal 5:22-23) grows naturally when you remain in Christ. No pressure, no force.
  • "I call you friends" (Joh 15:15), No longer servants! Sonship and friendship.
  • Fruit is the result of identity, not performance.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Jesus, I remain in you. Thank you that your life works in me. Let fruit emerge today, love, joy, peace, and good works, naturally, from connection with you. Amen.
