Gloria Patri (Glory Be to the Father)

Original Prayer

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Context (Old Covenant)

Trinitarian doxology from the early church. New Covenant orientation, but the formula often risks being prayed without inner relationship.

What it teaches

Worship; alignment with God.

Realization in the New Covenant

The Gloria Patri is a doxology (praise) from the early church. It honors the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the New Covenant:

  • Worship happens in spirit and truth (Joh 4:23-24)
  • You have free access to the Father through Jesus (Eph 2:18; Heb 10:19-22)
  • Liturgical formulas can become empty, living worship comes from the heart
  • The core is right: God deserves glory, yesterday, today, and forever

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, all glory belongs to you. Thank you for Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Thank you that in Christ I am close and can worship you freely, from the heart, not from a formula. Amen.
