Philippians 3:9

Gifted Righteousness

Verse

And be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ.

Thought

Paul does not want his own righteousness that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ. This is the core of the New Covenant: righteousness is a gift, not an achievement.

There is a deep difference between a righteousness you work for and one you receive. One makes you tired, the other sets you free. Paul, the former Pharisee, knew both. And he chose the gifted righteousness.

Today you can stop earning your standing and start receiving it.

Truth & Application

Truth: There are two kinds of righteousness, the earned and the gifted. The earned one exhausts you. The gifted one sets you free. In Christ you have received the gifted one.

Today practically: If you notice today that you are trying to prove your worth, stop. Remember: My righteousness comes through faith, not through performance.

Question for you: Where are you still trying to earn righteousness instead of receiving it?

Prayer

Father, thank you for the righteousness you have gifted me in Christ. I do not need to earn it. Today I receive what you give. I release self-righteousness and the drive to perform. Holy Spirit, anchor me in the gifted righteousness. Amen.
