Hebrews 8:6
Sonship and nearness
Verse
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Thought
Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. The New Covenant is not an improved version of the Old. It is fundamentally different.
In the Old Covenant, a curtain stood between God and man. In the New, the curtain is torn. Christ is the mediator, and through him you have direct access. No priestly hierarchy, no temple system, you and the Father, face to face.
If God feels far away, it is not because he has withdrawn. The nearness stands. The access is open. The Spirit in you testifies: You belong.
Truth & Application
Truth: The New Covenant is better, not because you are better, but because Christ is the mediator. His work guarantees your access. You do not need to become worthy first.
Today practically: Speak with God today as with your Father. No religious protocol, no distance. Direct, honest, close.
Question for you: Where does an old idea of God keep you at a distance even though access has long been open?
Prayer
Father, thank you that the New Covenant stands on better promises. Thank you that Christ is my mediator and I have access. Today I come close to you without fear. I release religious distance and false reverence. Holy Spirit, show me today what nearness to you looks like. Amen.
