Freedom from Guilt & Shame, The New Covenant Truly Sets Free

Home Group Session 8: Freedom from Guilt & Shame, The New Covenant truly sets free

Part 1: For the Home Group Leader, leading & impulse

Goal of the session: participants should recognize that the New Covenant offers not only legal acquittal, but genuine, deep inner freedom. No religious mask, no constant struggle, but a life out of forgiveness, out of acceptance and out of identity. ⏱ approx. 60 minutes

📚 Preparation: Hebrews 10:12-23 // Romans 8:1-4 // 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

📖 Key verse

Romans 8:1: "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Opening, question to the circle:

Short impulse: 3 truths about freedom

1. Legally FREE, through the blood of Jesus

You are declared righteous, not through performance, but through the sacrifice.

→ Hebrews 10:14: "For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified."

2. Inwardly FREE, through the new identity

You are no longer the "old man" who fails again and again. You are a new creation (2 Cor 5:17).

3. FREE from shame, because God truly knows you

God has not only forgiven, he has carried all the guilt. Shame has no place anymore.

→ 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins […] and to cleanse us." 📝 Part 2: participant folder Personal reflection: read Hebrews 10:12-23 in quiet. What speaks to you? What challenges you?

Are there thoughts of shame that keep pulling me back?

Where may I newly recognize: Jesus carried EVERYTHING, even what I want to hide? Exercise:

Write a short letter to your former self, from the perspective of the New Covenant: "You thought you had to … but Jesus has …"

Exchange in small groups (2/3) about a sentence from it. Encouragement round:

Say to another participant today: "In Christ you are free, and God knows no condemnation."

Part 3: What comes now?, concrete suggestion

1. Give freedom room:

This week speak consciously: "I am free, because HE carried everything."

2. Speak out truth:

Memorize Romans 8:1 or Hebrews 10:14, as antidote against accusation and shame.

3. Learn new language:

Replace inner sentences like "I am not enough" with "I am righteous through Christ."
