Healing, Help and Hope, Right in the Midst of Everyday Life

Home Group Session 4: Healing, Help and Hope, in the Midst of Everyday Life

Part 1: For the Home Group Leader, leading & impulse

Goal of the session: participants should recognize that healing, help and hope are not "extras" for special times or places, but a firm part of the New Covenant. The Holy Spirit works in the midst of everyday life, in the middle of the living room. It is about a real life in faith, not about theory. Jesus is not far, he lives through us. And he works where we expect him. ⏱ approx. 60-75 minutes

📚 Preparation: Mark 16:17-18 // John 14:12 // 1 Corinthians 12 // Luke 9:1-2 // Psalm 103:2-3

📖 Key verse

Mark 16:17-18: "These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will... lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Opening, conversation starter:

Short impulse: what belongs to me, through Christ?

1. The New Covenant brings provision for spirit, soul and body

Psalm 103 says: "… who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases".

Jesus did not only die for our sins, but also for our sicknesses. The "bread" at communion stands for his body, broken for our body.

→ Isaiah 53:5: "… by his stripes we are healed."

2. Healing is no reward, but part of salvation

Healing does not happen because we pray "well enough". But because HE has already done everything. Faith means: I take what belongs to me, not: I convince God.

3. The Holy Spirit works in the midst of daily life

Not only in big church services, but while shopping, at dinner, in conversation in the living room.

📖 Jesus worked everywhere, and today we are his hands. (John 14:12: "… you will do greater things")

Part 2: participant folder

Do you believe that healing belongs to you today, or rather for others?

What sometimes holds you back from praying for healing?

Where do you yourself need healing, physically, emotionally or spiritually?

Joint exercise, laying on of hands:

In groups of two/three:, each person names a topic where they need healing or hope, the others lay (if allowed) the hand on and pray briefly and powerfully. Important: no performance pressure, Jesus works, not you!

A little impulse as reminder:

Whoever has Jesus has access to everything he has done.

The bread at communion is no ritual, it is an invitation: "This is my body, given for YOU."

Part 3: What comes now?, concrete suggestion

1. Speak a prayer of healing out loud this week.

Not only ask, but proclaim: "I thank you, Jesus, that healing belongs to me, because you have accomplished it."

2. Read Psalm 103:2-3 daily

And speak it over your life.

3. Challenge for the bold:

When someone tells you about pain, grief or sickness, offer to pray. Say: "May I pray briefly for you?", and then do it. Brief, honest, clear.

📦 Materials

  • ☐ Printouts of Psalm 103, Isaiah 53, Mark 16
  • ☐ Oil (for anointing, James 5)
  • ☐ Card with proclamations for healing (e.g. "I am healed by his stripes")

🎯 Note to the leader

Expect that something happens. The Holy Spirit is no theory, he is a person. And he loves to work through you. Say it out loud: "I am ready, for I am sent."
