Prayer for Joy in the Word (Ps 119:105)
Original Prayer
Context (Old Covenant)
Word from Psalm 119:105 (Old Testament). In the New Covenant, the Word is Christ himself (John 1).
What it teaches
God's word as orientation; light in daily life.
Realization in the New Covenant
In the New Covenant you have the Spirit who leads you into all truth (John 16:13). God's Word is living and active (Heb 4:12), not dead head knowledge.
- ›Revelation, not discipline: Joy in the Word does not come from duty, but when the Spirit opens your eyes and Scripture comes alive
- ›Journey of discovery: Bible reading is not a mandatory program. It is a journey of discovery, ask with every text: Who is speaking? To whom? Under which covenant?
- ›Context: Before the cross is not after the cross. The Sermon on the Mount is not your rulebook, it shows the impossibility of the law
- ›Your teacher: The Holy Spirit is your teacher (1 John 2:27). You need no mediator between you and the Word
Prayer in the New Covenant
Father, thank You for Your word. In Christ make it alive in me. I receive light for my steps and joy in Your truth. Amen.
