Prayer for Guidance (Ps 25:4-5)

Original Prayer

Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

Context (Old Covenant)

Psalm of David (Ps 25:4-5) from the Old Testament. Plea for guidance under the Old Covenant.

What it teaches

Teachability; request for guidance.

Realization in the New Covenant

Psalm 25 is David's request for guidance under the Old Covenant. In the New Covenant:

  • The Holy Spirit guides you into all truth (Joh 16:13), you have an inner guide
  • "Show me your ways", God's ways are written within you (Heb 8:10; Jer 31:33)
  • "I wait for you", In the New Covenant you don't wait for God to come. He's already here, in you.
  • Receive guidance instead of waiting for it. The Spirit speaks, listen.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, thank you for your guidance through the Holy Spirit within me. Show me your ways, I know you are leading me. I receive clarity and courage for the next step. Amen.
