Free Access Without Sacrifice Logic (Heb 4:16 / 10:19-22)

Original Prayer

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Context (Old Covenant)

Word from Hebrews 4:16 / 10:19-22, central New Covenant truth: free access to the Father, no longer through animal sacrifices.

What it teaches

In the OT guilt is handled through sacrificial acts. Access is regulated: priests, blood, specific times and places.

Realization in the New Covenant

Hebrews 4:16 and 10:19-22 are the opposite of the Old Covenant.

  • No more sacrifice needed, no priest as mediator, no veil that separates.
  • You have BOLDNESS (parresia = open, fearless speech) before the throne of grace.
  • The blood of Jesus opened the way, once and for all.
  • You do not come crawling but as a child to the Father.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, thank You for the boldness I have through the blood of Jesus. In Christ I come now to the throne of grace and receive mercy and help in time of need. I rely on Christ, not on performance. Amen.
