Prayer in Grief / Funeral

Original Prayer

Father, we bring you our pain and our loss.

Thank you that death has lost its sting in Christ.

Comfort the bereaved, hold them in your love.

Give us hope that goes beyond this life.

Amen.

Context (Old Covenant)

Modern prayer for grief and funeral. New Covenant orientation: Christ has overcome death, hope of resurrection.

What it teaches

Comfort; hope; eternity perspective.

Realization in the New Covenant

In the New Covenant we do not grieve without hope (1 Thess 4:13). The resurrection is reality, not wishful thinking.

  • Christ has defeated death (1 Cor 15:55-57).
  • Grief is human and allowed, but it does not have the last word. God's nearness in grief is not a pious phrase but reality: the Spirit dwells in you and comforts.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, comfort those who grieve. Thank You for the hope of resurrection in Christ. Give peace and nearness in this time. Amen.
