Prayer for Gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12-14)

Original Prayer

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;

and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

Context (Old Covenant)

Word of Paul (1 Cor 12-14), New Covenant: gifts of the Spirit serve the body of Christ, available to every believer.

What it teaches

Service to the body; edification; love as the framework.

Realization in the New Covenant

Spiritual gifts are New Covenant reality. Paul teaches: the Spirit distributes as He wills (1 Cor 12:11).

  • ›Gifts are not status symbols but tools for building up the body.
  • ›Every member matters, none may despise another.
  • ›And above all stands love (1 Cor 13). Without love every gift is hollow.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, thank You for Your Spirit. In Christ I receive gifts that build up: wisdom, knowledge, healing, prophecy. Let everything happen in love and clarity. Let Christ be made visible. Amen.
