Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Sanctification (1Thess 5:23)
Original Prayer
Context (Old Covenant)
Word of Paul (1 Thess 5:23), New Covenant: sanctification is the work of God, not a human achievement.
What it teaches
God works change holistically.
Realization in the New Covenant
1 Thessalonians 5:23 is a New Covenant statement: God sanctifies you, spirit, soul, and body.
- ›Sanctification is GOD'S work, not yours (Phil 1:6; 1Thess 5:24)
- ›Your spirit is already holy in Christ (1Cor 6:11). Sanctification of the soul (mind, emotions) is a process.
- ›"Preserved blameless", Not: "Try to be flawless." Rather: God preserves you.
- ›In the New Covenant, sanctification is fruit of identity, not religious discipline
Prayer in the New Covenant
Father, thank you for sanctifying me in Christ, spirit, soul, and body. Shape my thinking, my words, and my actions. I agree with your truth and walk in the Spirit. Your work in me is good and will be completed. Amen.
