Prayer for Love (1Cor 13 as Mirror)

Original Prayer

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Context (Old Covenant)

Word of Paul (1 Cor 13), pure New Covenant teaching. Love as fruit of the Spirit, not as legal achievement.

What it teaches

Love as the standard; patience; kindness; truth.

Realization in the New Covenant

1 Corinthians 13 is the New Covenant description of love. Not law, but fruit of the Spirit:

  • Love is not something you produce by your own effort. It is fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22)
  • "God's love has been poured into our hearts" (Rom 5:5), it is ALREADY in you
  • Paul describes here how Christ loves. You live from HIS love, not from your striving.
  • Instead of "God, give me more love" you say: "Thank you that your love is in me. I live from it."

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, thank you that your love is poured into me through the Holy Spirit. Let me be patient, kind, and truthful today, not from effort but from what you placed in me. I receive love and pass it on. Amen.
