Prayer for Wisdom (Prov 3:5-6)

Original Prayer

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Context (Old Covenant)

Proverb of Solomon (Prov 3:5-6) from the Old Testament. Wisdom literature under the Old Covenant.

What it teaches

Trust instead of self-reliance; guidance in daily life.

Realization in the New Covenant

Proverbs 3:5-6 is wisdom literature from the Old Covenant. "Trust in the Lord" is timeless, but in the New Covenant something is added:

  • The Holy Spirit dwells in you and guides you into all truth (Joh 16:13)
  • Wisdom is not far away, you have the mind of Christ (1Cor 2:16)
  • "Do not lean on your own understanding", In the New Covenant: Let the Spirit renew your mind (Rom 12:2)
  • You receive wisdom generously, without reproach (Jas 1:5)

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, thank you for your guidance through the Holy Spirit. I receive wisdom for today, clear and without reproach. I listen to your Spirit within me and decide from trust. Amen.
