1 John 4:10
Rest and Trust
Verse
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us.
Thought
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us. John makes something decisive clear here: the origin is not with you. You are not the starting point of the relationship with God.
In the New Covenant, God's love is not a reaction to your behavior. It is initiative. He loved first, when you were not even asking. This takes the pressure off having to build something that has long been standing.
When busyness drives you today, remember: you are not loved because you deliver. You are loved because he decided so. True rest grows from this.
Truth & Application
Truth: God's love is not a response to your performance, but his decision. You are not under pressure to prove yourself. His heart for you is settled, regardless of your daily form.
Practical today: When you notice yourself rushing inside, pause briefly. Say quietly: I am loved before I do anything. Then carry on, but from rest.
Question for you: In which area are you trying to earn love today that is already there?
Prayer
Father, thank you that your love is not the result of my effort. You loved first. Today I receive this truth as the foundation of my day. I release the urge to earn acceptance. Holy Spirit, remind me today that I am already loved. Amen.
